Nowadays English has become the most important language in the world, and little by little other languages are disappearing because of this imposing of the universal language. Schools and universities emphazise a lot teaching English, but many careers don’t emphasize to teach a well use of Spanish, a language which is totally wasted by Chileans. That is why sometimes it is really difficult in schools teaching English, if students don’t even have acquire their mother tongue, it is even more difficult to teach a foreign language. In my case, I think is not really meaningful to learn a language which is not related with psychology. It must be more useful if teachers teach me how to make a relation between languages, in this case English, and how people behave or learn.
I know that languages are a crucial factor in our learning process, it is important to know about them in order to comprehend our culture and traditions. Having in mind this, it is easier to understand how language influences our lives. It means that each country have their own characteristics depending on the language that they speak. I think it would be really easy to chose one language and get totally involved with it, but a language need diversity to improve. That is why, languages are strongly influenced by borrowing expressions, exchange of vocabulary and evolution of words.
I do believe that English is getting powerful with the past of the year, and maybe in the future, it will become the only language in the world, which is an idea that scared me. Spanish is a beautiful language which is not being well use in our country. Most of the people speak Chilean and they use like a quarter of all the vocabulary that Spanish give us. Commonly in schools English teachers don’t explain why children should learn this language. They imposed English like maths or history, but there is not that simple. Acquiring a new language is a personal decision that every human being should have.
In my opinion Spanish has been underestimate by schools, universities and Chilean people in general. There is a lack of loyalty to our own language. We are accustomed to make an improper use of it speaking in a bad way. Also, depending of the context that we belong we chose our vocabulary which in most of the cases is really poor and repetitive. Nowadays, English is getting into our lives, our classrooms and tastes, and teachers are imposing this language in an authoritative way. Chilean people should be more assertive in order to decide what language want to improve and acquire. Teachers are those who can save Spanish and keep it as our first language as mother tongue.
